Ryans vs Chrises: A Hollywood Showdown
Everyone has their favorite actor. It could be because they’re attractive, because they’re in a lot of movies you like, and sometimes it might even be because they’re simply a good actor. Today were putting up Reynolds and Gosling against Evans, Hemsworth, and Pratt. The categories will be best romance movie, best solo movie (non-franchise), best franchise, best action adventure (non-franchise), best comedy (non-franchise), best drama, and who is the most attractive. There is one rule, I can’t use the same movie twice.
1. Best Romance Movie—Ryan Reynolds, The Proposal
To my surprise, this was a very short list to go off of. Romcoms are certainly a dying breed and with almost all of the actors that I’m going over today dominating superhero movies, this was a fairly easy pick. While it’s not the best romcom by any means, Ryan Reynolds delivers with his unmatched charm. A fun movie to watch that’ll definitely get some laughs out of all who see it.
Ryans 1, Chrises 0
2. Best Solo Movie (Non-franchise)—Ryan Gosling, La La Land
You ever watch a movie and smile and laugh, and hope for the best the whole way through, only for it to rip your heart out? If not, La La Land is the movie for you. A fun musical the whole way through with catchy songs and a great score. Damien Chazelle gives us his second music based movie and they just get better. It won 6 Academy Awards and it won 7 Golden Globes including best director, best actress, and best original song at both award shows. If it wasn’t for my rule of only having a movie win only once, this would’ve won best romance movie too.
Ryans 2, Chrises 0
3. Best Franchise—Chrises, The MCU
I couldn’t give this award to just one of the Chrises because I felt that I would be robbing the other two. They’ve all played a huge part in the ever expanding Marvel Universe and even though Chris Evans is done, he was there for the good parts. All three Chrises played pivotal roles in the best movie of the series which was Avengers: Infinity War. Yes, Ryan Reynolds is joining the MCU in July with Deadpool and Wolverine, but it’s not July yet, so this category goes to the Chrises.
Ryans 2, Chrises 1
4. Best Action/Adventure (Non-franchise)—Chris Evans, Snowpiercer
A grueling movie set in a dystopian future has Evans fighting for his life, and the life of others while living completely on a train. Separated by class, Evans lives out his days in the back of the train with the poorest people, plotting to get to the front. An action packed spectacle that will have you on the edge of your seat the whole time is surely something to see.
Ryans 2, Chrises 2
5. Best Comedy (Non-franchise)—Ryan Gosling, The Nice Guys
If it weren’t for excluding franchises as much as possible, I think Deadpool might’ve taken this category. With that said, Ryan Gosling is one of the funniest actors in Hollywood. He is truly able to let his charm and humor shine in this buddy-cop comedy. There’s nothing that falls short in this movie and there are so many memorable lines. Nothing better than sitting back, and being able to smile and laugh for two hours straight.
Ryans 3, Chrises 2
6. Best Drama—Chris Hemsworth, Rush
Nothing is better than some guys fixing cars and then racing them. Yes, Hemsworth is a supporting actor in this movie, but he still plays Niki Lauda’s rival, James Hunt. In easily his best non-MCU movie, Hemsworth gives an excellent performance as he shows us a stone cold rival, but also a comforting and understanding friend. A good story this intense is something you don’t want to miss out on.
Ryans 3, Chrises 3
7. Attractiveness
Now I can’t really grade this one as everyone has their own preference, but we need a winner. The Chrises are jacked and there’s no denying that- super solider serum and being a god will do that to you- but I have to go to the Ryans. More style, better hair, overall funnier, and they just seem like they’d be great people to be around. But again, everyone has their type, and I’m not going to fight you if you’d choose a Chris.
Final score: Ryans 4, Chrises 3
Ryan Reynolds upcoming movies: Deadpool and Wolverine and IF.
Ryan Gosling upcoming movies: The Fall Guy
Chris Hemsworth upcoming movies: Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Transformers One
Chris Evans upcoming movies: Red One
Chris Pratt upcoming movies: Garfield
