Most Anticipated Movies for the Back Half of 2024

2024 has been a mixed bag of movies so far. There have been absolutely great movies like Dune: Part 2 and great times with The Fall Guy, but of course there have been some misses with Challengers and Madame Web. However, today we look forward to the second half of 2024 for my most anticipated movies for the rest of the year.

5. Twisters—July 19th

Glen Powell is here and he’s not leaving anytime soon. He has slowly risen to the top, and then with Top Gun: Maverick, he took a rocket to the top. Now with Twisters, this movie probably won’t do well with critics and it may not even do well at the box office, but I think this movie will be a good time. It’ll most likely fall into a category that I call “Yes movies” - movies that I watch that I sit back and say, “yes, that movie ruled.” Some of these movies can be great like a Top Gun: Maverick, but they don’t all have to be all that like Bullet Train

4. Gladiator 2–November 22nd

Director Ridley Scott has had some rough times recently. From Napoleon to The Last Duel, he hasn’t been up to what most people think of when they hear his name. Now he comes back with a sequel 24 years after what most consider to be his best movie. I am cautiously optimistic about this movie because I know what Scott is capable, but I also know what he’s put out in the last few years. This does have a great cast featuring TV superstar Pedro Pascal and one of the most famous actors alive, Denzel Washington. I do think this movie will do well, so I have hope and that’s why it comes in at #4.

3. Joker: Folie à Duex—October 4th

My bias is definitely going to start showing with these last three movies. I do think all three of these movies will be good, but I’ll start now with Joker: Folie à Duex. When it was announced that this would be a musical I was very skeptical, but after I saw the trailer my mind was changed; this looks like a great movie. It stars Joaquin Phoenix as Joker and Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. It has the star power to be good. As of now there has been just a teaser, but I’m intrigued. It looks as though Harley Quinn will be a patient in Arkham Asylum instead of a psychiatrist. Things like that raise some questions for me, but if it follows the success of the first movie, Joker: Folie à Duex will be a huge hit.

2. Deadpool and Wolverine—July 26th

Could this movie revitalize the MCU? Yeah, I think that it has the potential to bring people back to the MCU but recently the MCU hasn’t been putting out the absolute worst, unlike it has in the recent years. Deadpool and Wolverine are two characters that people have wanted to see on screen together for a very long time. The closest we got was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine which was a complete disaster of a movie. What makes Deadpool and Wolverine so special is that fan favorite, Hugh Jackman, is back as Wolverine. Two immensely famous actors with two of the most popular superheroes today, Deadpool and Wolverine is bound to be a hit.

1. Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim—December 13th

The Lord of the Rings franchise is a storied one with what I believe to have the best trilogy of all time, but it has had some hard times recently. The Hobbit trilogy was a big miss for a lot of people and Amazon’s The Rings of Power has an 83% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes but an awful 38% audience score. Regardless of what it’s been like recently, I will always be excited for Lord of the Rings anything. This anime movie dives into the life of Helm Hammerhead and the war that made Helm’s Deep famous in the lands of Middle Earth nearly 200 years before the final events of the third age.

2024 still has a lot to offer when it comes to movies and I strongly believe that it will be a great back half of 2024. I hope that this was able to get you excited about what’s to come. I’ll see you at the movies.
